The selection of candidates who wish to register for PPL and CPL courses is done on the basis of a written test, pilot aptitude test and interview. For PPL candidates, written test will be on general English, Maths and Physics. For PPL to CPL trainees, test will be conducted on Air navigation, Aviation meteorology and Reasoning. Selected candidates for PPL will have to undergo medical check up with approved DGCA doctors and CPL candidates will have to go comprehensive check up with institutes of Aero Medicine, Bangalore or Central Medical Establishment, New Delhi. Candidates who are passing out of medical exams will be selected and registered with IAA for a training programme. 

Minimum age limit is 16 years (17 years is needed for issue of CPL).

Minimum Educational qualification is 10, +2 with physics and Mathematics.

Candidates are required to meet the medical standard as per the norms laid down by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), New Delhi. At the time of admission, students have to undergo Class II Medical with the DGCA panelized medical examiners. However, the candidates have to undergo a comprehensive medical investigation conducted at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM), Bangalore, the Central Medical Establishment (CME), New Delhi or at the Airforce Hospital, Jorhat by prior appointment. This is a mandatory requirement before the issuance of the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL). For more details on medical requirements, visit www.dgca.nic.in.
